Bp. DiLorenzo pledges support to Obama

The election of Barack Obama to the presidency of the United States is a turning point in the history of our nation and we congratulate him on his victory.

We commend our President-elect for presenting a vision of unity for our country. We share with him a common desire for a better America, and we have hope in what truly will make America better.

I join the bishops of the United States in affirming that the people of the Diocese of Richmond stand ready to work on behalf of authentic Catholic values.

We pledge our prayers as well as our promise to work together to strengthen our nation for the greater good of all.

I also join Pope Benedict XVI in praying that God will assist the new President-elect in his efforts, together with all men and women of good will, to build a world of peace, solidarity and justice.

I ask the faithful of this Diocese to pray for our President-elect and for all newly-elected leaders-that they will carry out the duties entrusted to them with greater care for the dignity of all persons and in complete faithfulness to our Creator.
